I’m finishing up an email. It’s a light ‘let’s catch up’ message to someone I haven’t talked to in a while. No big deal. I choose a standard sign-off: All the best!
I look at the screen and it says ‘All the beast!’
I haven’t hit send yet, so it’s ok. I go back and delete it and do it over. Again… ‘All the beast!’
I go for it again, but the same thing happens. My fingers refuse to leave out the ‘A.’
‘What the heck?’ I ask.
Later on I’m typing another message. I want to tell the other person that I’m the best, so I type: I’m the best!
I look at the screen and it says, ‘I’m the beast!’
Again, I can’t get rid of it. Are my hands cold? Am I distracted?
Am I possessed?
OH NO! This is not good.
I don’t know how else to explain it. Is it my fingers pushing the keys, or the keyboard guiding my fingers. Is the internet taking over my brain and body? Is it coming back for revenge? I know I’ve said some things it might not be happy with. Has this been coming for me?
Free will. Is it a thing?
What does this mean for free will? Does it exist? It’s a big debate. One of the burning philosophical questions of the moment. Do we have any say in the matter, or is it the gods/simulations that are pulling the strings? We want to believe we are in control of our lives and our decisions. It makes you feel better about your life. Consensus is that it’s better to live one’s life as though we think we have free will. Then we can ‘choose’ to be good and do the right thing.
BUT WHO CARES ABOUT CONSENSUS! If everyone jumped off a bridge, would you follow along?
If you are possessed by the beast, do you just accept it and do what it wants?
Do your own thing! Be what you want to be! Fight the good fight!
All the beast!
